The United States women's hockey team (members pictured above) won their first gold medal since the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics with a 3-2 shootout victory over Canada early Thursday morning, US time.

Jocelyn Lamoureux-Davidson's goal in the sixth round of the shootout, followed by Maddie Rooney's save off a Meghan Agosto shot gave the Americans the win.

This is the first time the Americans have beaten the Canadians in Olympic play since the gold medal game in 1998.  American goalie Megan Rooney stopped 29 shots during regulation and overtime, plus four more in the shootout.

Monique Lamoureux-Morando scored for the Americans on a breakaway at 13:39 of the third period to tie the game at 2.
