After losing to the San Jose Sharks on Sunday at Little Caesars Arena 5-3, the Detroit Red Wings sent forward Gustav Nyquist to the Sharks for two future draft choices.

Nyquist (pictured) had to waive his no-trade clause for the deal to go through.  But he now joins a team that is fighting with Calgary for first place in the Pacific Division.

Gustav will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.  He has scored 49 points this season for the Red Wings, including 16 goals.

The NHL's trade deadline is Monday afternoon.  The Wings are well out of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference.  They traded away defenseman Nick Jensen last Friday.
