ICYMI: Pistons Give Dwane Casey Contract Extension

The Detroit Pistons agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with third-year head coach Dwane Casey on Wednesday afternoon.

With the one-year extension, Casey (pictured) is now under contract through 2024.  And the team has said publicly that they love the job that he's done with all the young players on Detroit's roster.

However, the Pistons have struggled defensively and in the fourth quarter trying to close games out this season.  Which has led to their 20-50 record (with two games left) this season.

The team, under first-year general manager Troy Weaver, decided to do a full-scale rebuild in the last year.  Weaver traded away Luke Kennard and Derrick Rose, and bought out Blake Griffin in favor of playing young talent like Killian Hayes, Saddiq Bey, and Isaiah Stewart among others.

Casey, who played on the 1978 Kentucky squad that won the NCAA Championship, was named NBA Coach of the Year in 2018 when he was with the Toronto Raptors.  He was fired by the team after losing to Cleveland in the second round of the playoffs.

Detroit has a first-round pick (to be determined by the upcoming Draft Lottery) and three second-round picks in the upcoming Draft.
