The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) announced on Thursday that, for the first time ever, there will be a girls wrestling individual tournament next winter.

Girls wrestlers will still be able to compete on boys teams for meets and the team postseason tournaments but at the individual level, the girls will have their own tournament to determine state champions.  According to the MHSAA, girls wrestlers can still participate in the boys individual tournament, but that would make them ineligible for the girls indy tournament.

There will be 14 weight classes for the girls postseason, those will be determined by the National Federation of State HS Associations.

The MHSAA made this announcement after their annual spring meeting of their Representative Council.
