On Wednesday afternoon, the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) paused the restart of the fall sports season (which began on Monday).

It's because of the requirements and further instruction needed from the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services for the "pilot program" of daily antigen testing for COVID-19 that the remaining schools in the three fall tournaments yet to be completed (football, volleyball, and girls swimming/diving) will be participating in so they can finish the season.

The schools still left will be a part of webinars next week (December 28-29) so that proper training for daily testing can be conducted.  Once that happens, the MHSAA will make a decision as to new restart dates for practice and then events.

The original restart for games/events was January 2nd.  But that is widely expected to change to later on in January.  The MHSAA says the earliest they can restart practice is December 30 (after the webinar training).

The fall high school sports season was originally paused in November due to restriction orders issued by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the MDHHS, as a result of the "second wave" of COVID-19 positive cases.
