Fans headed to see the Detroit Pistons or the Detroit Red Wings play this fall will have to download a ticketing app on their smartphones for entry.

Olympia Entertainment, which operates the Little Caesars Arena, announced last week that it will use Ticketmaster technology to sell and authenticate its tickets. Print-at-home PDF files for tickets will no longer be distributed.

The organization says the new measures will help cut back on ticket fraud.

"Mobile tickets are the safest, most convenient and flexible way to receive and manage your tickets while increasing protection against fraud." the Detroit Red Wings website says.

"The District Detroit Mobile App" will allow fans to store, transfer and manage tickets for their desired sports events.

Those without a smart phone or just a dead phone battery still have the option of heading to the Little Caesars Arena XFINITY Box Office to have a physical copy printed out.

Season ticket holders will also need to use the app for entry. They will receive a commemorative ticket for the season in place of individual passes for each game.
