For the first time since they were the Hartford Whalers the Carolina Hurricanes won a game in Detroit beating the Red Wings 2-1 Friday night at Joe Louis Arena in their regular season home finale. Carolina (35-35-11) scored twice in the first period on goals by Elias Lindholm and Jiri Tlusty. Riley Sheahan scored the lone goal for Detroit (38-28-15) and Jimmy Howard made 17 saves. The Red Wings currently hold the eighth and final playoff spot in the NHL's Eastern Conference and will complete their regular season when they travel to St. Louis to face the Blues.
