Hunter Dickinson Commits To Kansas

Former Michigan men's basketball center Hunter Dickinson (pictured) announced via his Twitter account that he has committed to continue his college career at Kansas

Hunter Dickinson spent his first three years in Ann Arbor, where he was a highly touted recruit out of famed DeMatha H.S. in suburban Washington, D.C.  He was a main cog in the Wolverines run to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in 2021, where he averaged 14.1 points and 7.4 rebounds in his freshman year.  In his sophomore year (2021-22), he averaged 18.6 points and 8.6 rebounds a game as he helped Michigan to the NCAA Sweet 16 (where they lost to Villanova).  He then averaged 18.5 points and nine rebounds a game for the Wolverines this past season, where Michigan finished 18-16 and lost to Vanderbilt in the second round of the NIT.

He is scheduled to graduate this summer from Michigan and will have two years of eligibility left at Kansas (his freshman year of 2020-21 was the free COVID-19 year).

Hunter reportedly considered Kentucky, Maryland, Georgetown, Villanova, and a return to Michigan.  But he'll join a Kansas squad that finished 28-8 and won another Big 12 regular season title.  The Jayhawks, however, were beaten in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by Arkansas after losing to Texas in the finals of the Big 12 conference Tournament.

Dickinson's departure from Michigan will leave the Wolverines with sophomores Tarris Reed, Jr. and Will Tschetter as the team's most experienced big men returning.  Reed only averaged 3.4 points per game this past season, while Tschetter averaged only 2.3 points per game.
