I remember in the 1970s enjoying dinner and drinks at the old Hospitality Inn, corner of Dunckel and Collins roads. It was away from the city, away from heavy traffic...and easy to get to, just off US-127.

It later became a Harley Hotel. You know – the chain that was run by the infamous Leona Helmsley and her billionaire husband. The two were involved in a huge national scandal that involved tax fraud, extortion, and employee abuse.

The smell of that scandal was still in the air when finally, the building was turned into the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center.

The restaurant and bar was called Sigee's, of which the sign remained standing long after the place had closed down sometime around the year 2000.

Years later, in 2016,  plans were laid to rebuild and renovate the property with six apartments buildings, a 90-room hotel and underground parking. Called “The House”, it didn't work out. How many times did you drive by that empty, decrepit building with tall grass and weeds and wonder “what the heck are they ever gonna do with it?”

Now fast-forward to 2018 when a new plan was laid: a $52 million dollar apartment complex with an opening date of 2020. This complex plan boasted close to 300 rooms (289), aqua lounge, clubhouse, courtyard, dog park & spa, fitness center, twenty-four hour entertainment lounge, fire pits, internet cafe', picnic area, pool, professional conference room, and shuffleboard.

It opened in summer 2020 as Volaris Lansing Apartments.

The old address was 3600 Dunckel, now changed to 4540 Collins Road. Same location, just a different address.

Now take a look at the gallery below, with images taken when the attempt was made to turn it into “The House”. The building sat empty and deteriorating for so long, the whole thing was scrapped, demolished, and turned into the Volaris. See what it looked like in its worst condition!
