If you're looking for something different to do this weekend (especially if you have Monday off) you might want to head north to Marquette or Grand Marais to see the UP 200 dog sled race, with teams traveling over 200 miles through the U.P.

According to UPmatters, the UP 200 sled dog race starts tonight at 7pm in downtown Marquette. They'll race down US-41 and M-28, continue to a checkpoint at Wetmore, where they have a mandatory 5 hour rest and then onto Grand Marais. If you're in Grand Marais on Saturday, you'll see all the teams arrive starting in late morning. They'll finish back in Marquette sometime on Sunday. My guess is some pretty good parties - organized, as well as spontaneous - surround this event.

This is a qualifying race for the Iditarod in Alaska, which starts Saturday, March 7th in Anchorage.
