Harbaugh: Cade McNamara Is U-M Starting QB
At a press conference in Ann Arbor on Monday, University of Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh named junior Cade McNamara (pictured) as the team's starting quarterback for the team's opening contest against Western Michigan this coming Saturday at Michigan Stadium.
McNamara beats out Texas Tech transfer Alan Bowman, true freshman J.J. McCarthy, and sophomore Dan Villari for the job.
Cade replaced Joe Milton (who has since transferred to Tennessee) as QB during the Rutgers game and led them to a victory. He started four games last season.
McNamara is a junior, but technically has freshman eligibility because he was redshirted in 2019 and played during the "free" COVID-19 year in 2020.
He threw for 425 yards and five touchdowns in 2020 with no interceptions. The Reno, Nevada native was a four-year starter in high school.
