Grand Ledge’s Al Horford Signs Extension W/Celtics
Former Grand Ledge HS and University of Florida star Al Horford (pictured above) has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Boston Celtics worth a total of $20 million.
Horford is in the final year of his current deal, and would have become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
The former Grand Ledge Comet is in his 16th season in the NBA. He has averaged 13.6 points and 8.1 rebounds during his NBA career. He is a five-time All-Star and was a part of the Celtics' Eastern Conference championship team last season.
Horford is one of the all-time greats at Florida. He teamed with Joakim Noah and head coach Billy Donovan to lead the Gators to the 2006 & 2007 NCAA National Championship.
Al has made over $250 million during his NBA career (including this year's $26.5 million salary), according to hoopshype.com. He has played for the Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Boston Celtics in his career.
He was born in the Dominican Republic, but played his high school basketball at Grand Ledge HS. He is the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,239 points. And he was named Michigan's Class A Player of the Year in 2004.
