Grand Ledge picks up CAAC Blue victory on the road
The Grand Ledge Comets didn't have many CAAC Blue wins in the 2016-17 season. But they did manage to beat the Okemos Chiefs one time. They did so again Friday night, knocking off Okemos 60-51 on the road.
It was a game of runs with Grand Ledge starting out hot, 7-0, thanks to Seniors Alex McCready & Grant Gardella. Okemos bounced back to cut it to within one, 7-6. But the Comets responded to open things up a bit in the 2nd quarter. Then Jordan Henry took over for Okemos. The Senior guard scored 9 points and dished out a few assists in that 2nd stanza, as the Chiefs took a slim lead. But it was tied 24 a piece at the half. The 3rd quarter saw more of the same, as the two squads traded runs (and baskets), with the score again being tied. This time at 35-35. Then the Comets' defense clamped down on Henry & that Chiefs' offense (holding their other 4 starters to a combined 10 points in the contest) . The pressure caused turnovers, forced Okemos into some foul situations, and in the end Grand Ledge made their free throws. After going 2-9 at the charity stripe in first half, the Comets went 12-12 in the 4th quarter to close things out.
Grand Ledge improves to 3-1 on the season, and 1-1 in the CAAC Blue. Okemos drops to 2-2, and 1-1 in the Blue.
