East Lansing came into 2018 with a undefeated record and a regular season winning streak that spanned over two full seasons.

One game into 2018 and all of that was gone when Grand Ledge picked up a big road win over the Trojans 59-53 on Tuesday.

The Trojans' 46 game winning streak in the regular season was snapped in part due to the Comets aggressive nature, getting to the foul line for 20 more shots in this game. It was East Lansing's first regular season loss since March 5, 2015 to Waverly. Brandon Johns was a freshman on that team.

Grand Ledge rode hot shooting down the stretch including a great night of shooting from Luke Smith. Smith was 4-8 from deep and 5-9 overall. His last three point shot broke a 51-all tie and ended up being the dagger to give the Comets the lead for good.

Alex McCready was getting it done at the free throw line for GL to keep pace with EL throughout the night. 13 of his 23 points came at the charity stripe and despite starting 1-6 from the line, he finished 12-14 after that stretch including sinking big free throws in the fourth quarter with the game in balance.

Brandon Johns was held in check, or at least as much as you can hold a player of his caliber in check at this level. 21 points on 9-13 shooting, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Those numbers are at or below his average on the 2017-18 season to this point.
