Stanley Cup winning coach Mike Babcock (with the Detroit Red Wings in 2008) was fired on Wednesday afternoon as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Babcock (pictured above) was let go after 4+ years at the helm in Toronto.  His teams never got past the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs during his time in Ontario.

The Leafs are a disappointing 9-10-4 this season.  Babcock was 173-133-45 in Toronto and has won exactly 700 games as an NHL head coach.  He was with the Red Wings for ten seasons before leaving for the Leafs.

Sheldon Keefe was named as Babcock's replacement.
