Former MSU President, John DiBiaggio, Has Passed Away

Former Michigan State University president, John DiBiaggio, has passed away at the age of 87.

DiBiaggio was the 17th MSU President, serving from 1985 to 1992.

“John DiBiaggio was a true advocate for inclusion, service to others and, most of all, equitable access to higher education. His legacy is still felt on the banks of our Red Cedar and will be for generations to come. Our most sincere condolences go out to his family during this difficult time," said the current university president, Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D.

Michigan State University's 19th president, as well as the current president of the Association of Public and Land-grant University, talked about John:

"John was a great Spartan who worked hard for the university. He was a national leader in public higher education and served as chair of the APLU Board of Directors in the 1980s. He leaves behind many friends.”

DiBiaggo helped achieve many firsts in his eight-year tenure. From advancements in the land-grant mission, as a tenacious advocate for education, according to WILX. He had a commitment to the promotion of diversity, inclusion, as well as global scholarship research.
