Former MSU Basketball Player Appling Arrested
The 2010 Michigan Mr. Basketball and former Michigan State men's basketball player Keith Appling (pictured while at MSU) was arrested on Monday morning, as he is a suspect in a Detroit shooting of a 66-year old man (who ended up dying as a result of his injuries) back on Saturday night.
Appling, who played at MSU from 2010-14, was apprehended by Michigan State Police in Chelsea, MI. A firearm was found in his possession.
Appling was the Michigan Mr. Basketball as a senior at Detroit Pershing HS in 2010. He set an MHSAA Finals record by scoring 49 points in the Class A Championship game for the Doughboys against Kalamazoo Central in 2009 (his junior year in HS).
At MSU, Appling was third-team All-Big Ten his sophomore year. He then was second-team All-Big Ten his junior year. He went undrafted in 2014. And he had a brief stint in the NBA with the Orlando Magic.
He spent time in prison on a gun charge in 2017 and had a drug charge against him last year.
