It is a rarity in hockey.   A goal scored by a goaltender.   For the first time in 7 years a NHL goaltender has scored a goal in a game between Nashville and Chicago.

According to the story from Yahoo Sports Canada,  Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators scored an empty net goal against Chicago.

The goal was the first goal scored by a goaltender since Mike Smith of the Coyotes  in 2013.

Mike Smith's goal was against the Red Wings in October of 2013.   I remember seeing that goal along with the one Chris Osgood had for the Red Wings back in 1996. He scored his goal against the old Hartford Wailers.

The only other one I remember seeing is one of Ron Hextall's goals from the 1989 season.  He scored one in the regular season and one in the playoffs for the Flyers.

Rinne's goal helped the Predators to a 5-2 win over the Blackhawks.
