Florida State Player Erupts for 30 Points in Under 5 Minutes
There's having a hot hand and then there's whatever scolding hand Xavier Rathan-Mayes had.
The Florida State freshman scored 30 points in the final 4:38 of the Seminoles 81-77 loss to Miami on Wednesday. At one point, Rathan-Mayes scored 26 consecutive points without missing a shot for FSU.
The Hurricanes had built an 18-point lead and it looked like the game was in the bag when Rathan-Mayes went to work, turning this blowout into a bit of a nailbiter. He scored five points in the first half, but went scoreless in the second for more than 15 minutes when his barrage of buckets began.
He finished with 35 points, including six 3-pointers.
Miami coach Jim Larranaga was impressed by Rathan-Mayes, saying, "I've never seen that before in my college coaching career. Outrageous. One of the greatest on-court performances I've ever seen."
