Five Things for August 8th...

1.  Lee Westwood, Kevin Chappell, and Ryan Palmer (above) are the co-leaders after the 1st Round of the 96th PGA Championship.  They lead a group of golfers by one shot, which include Jim Furyk and British Open champion Rory McIlroy.  Round 2 begins this morning.

2.  The Detroit Tigers lost three out of four to the New York Yankees this week.  They lost in Yankee Stadium yesterday 1-0.  Combine that with Kansas City's 6-2 win over Arizona, and Detroit's lead in the AL Central is 2 1/2 games.  The Tigers open a series in Toronto against the Blue Jays.

3.  The Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed, in principle, to a deal that would send All-Star forward Kevin Love to Cleveland for Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett, and a protected 2015 first-round pick.  The deal cannot be finalized until August 23rd.

4.  Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant has withdrawn from the USA Basketball team.  He cited "physical and mental fatigue".  The USA is headed to Spain to play the World Cup of Basketball, beginning on August 30th.

5.  US Soccer's all-time leading goal-scorer, Landon Donovan, announced his retirement at  the end of the L.A. Galaxy's season in Major League Soccer.  Donovan was left off the 2014 World Cup squad this summer.
