Another high school football season has concluded.  And for the first time since 2009, the Lansing area did not have a team qualify for the finals.  Only Mason, DeWitt, and Morrice (in 8-Player football) made it to the semifinals.

Mason had the best team in the area all season long, as they were the only unbeaten team entering the playoffs out of Lansing.

Other perennial powers had down years by their standards.  Teams like Lansing Catholic, Pewamo-Westphalia, DeWitt, and Portland St. Patrick struggled compared to recent seasons.

But other teams like Laingsburg, Charlotte, and Fowler rose up and had excellent years.  Waverly and Sexton were improved as well.

Ok, on with the final poll of the season:

Final Mid-Michigan H.S. Football Top 10 Poll

The addition of Lansing Catholic in the final Top 10 might upset some people, considering that they finished 6-6, a down year by their expectations.  But, as I've said before, you have to take postseason success (or lack thereof) into account.  That's why they're in.  And others like Williamston, Haslett, and P-W didn't make it.

This is the final poll for the football season.  But I will have football honors posted tomorrow (Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, etc.).  Of course, those honors are only in my opinion.  And I could be wrong (as Dennis Miller used to say).

With basketball season beginning this week (girls basketball this week, boys basketball next week), the first high school basketball polls will be posted right before the Christmas break.  I like to let the season play out a bit to see who the top teams are before the New Year.

Thanks for following along this football season.  We'll see you in a few weeks.
