Another season of high school football is in the books.  And while we wanted so badly for it to happen, it just wasn't meant to be for Mason to win the state title.  As the Bulldogs lost to Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central in Sunday's Division 3 final, 27-10, at Ford Field in Detroit.

The best team in the area this season, and the best team in Mason High School's history, lost all-state running back (and Mr. Football finalist) A.J Martel due to injury and that hurt Mason's chances.

Losing Martel made the Bulldogs pretty one-dimensional and junior QB Cason Carswell wasn't good enough in the second half to get them over the top.  The pick-6 in the fourth quarter basically ended the game.

At least they lost to a better team (on that day, Forest Hills Central was the better team).  There is no shame in that.

And there's no shame in finishing in the top spot of the final Lansing-area H.S. Football rankings for this season.  There were no changes from last week as Mason was the only area team to make it all the way to Ford Field.  Mason was the number 1 team in the area at the start of the season, and that's where they are at the end of the season.

Even though this is the final poll of the football season, basketball season is now underway (the boys season started Monday, the girls season starts next week).  We will have boys and girls basketball top 10 polls starting up at the Christmas break, and then it will be weekly after the 1st of the year.

Ok, here's the final top 10 poll for the H.S. Football season:
