Tyler Holtz, the all-state quarterback who led the DeWitt HS Panthers to the Division 3 state title last January at Ford Field, verbally committed to Brown University on Monday night.

Holtz enters his senior season at DeWitt as the reigning Associated Press Division 3-4 Player of the Year.  He threw for almost 2,500 yards and 35 touchdowns last season for the Panthers.  He threw only two interceptions in 2020.

The 5-11 Holtz had offers from other FCS and Division II schools, but decided on the Ivy League and Brown University.  Brown is located in Providence, Rhode Island.

Holtz tells the Lansing State Journal:

"It's really an honor, playing in the Ivy League has always been my dream.  I'm not 6-2, 6-3.  I'm short, unfortunately, and that's kind of worked against me this summer, but I do have some opportunities that I'm really looking forward to taking advantage of."

Here's Holtz's tweet announcing his commitment:

DeWitt is one of the favorites once again in Division 3.  They also have fellow college commits Tommy McIntosh and Nick Flegler on this year's squad.  The Panthers open the season on Thursday, August 26th at Michigan Stadium against Traverse City Central.
