The Tigers and Erie Seawolves announced that catcher, Chase Numata passed away after being hospitalized after an accident last week.

According to the Tigers, Numata  suffered head injuries and was hospitalized after a skateboarding accident on Friday, August 29th in Erie, Pennsylvania.  He passed away on Monday at the age of 27.

Numata joined the Tigers organization this year and was one of the catchers in Double A Erie. Before Detroit, he was in the Yankees and Phillies organizations.

I had the chance to watch him play in Erie back in July.   He was one of those players that you could tell loved the game and was a presence in the clubhouse.

He actually had the game winning sacrifice fly for Erie in their game one, double header win against Trenton on July 25th.

He along with teammate, Derek Hill spent a lot of  time after the win talking to fans and signing autographs.  A well loved player in the Tigers organization.

Tigers prospect Logan Shore set up a Go Fund Me page to help the family with expenses.  Latest total was over $39,000.
