It has so far been a fairly quiet off season for the Detroit Tigers.  As the Winter Meetings wrapped up, they finally signed a veteran catcher.

According to the M-Live story, the Tigers signed former Yankees catcher, Austin Romine to a one year deal.

Romine is the younger brother of Andrew Romine, who was an utility infielder for the Tigers from 2014 to 2017.

Austin was the backup to Yankees starter, Gary Sanchez last season.   Romine may also be familiar to Tigers fans as he was a part of the huge brawl that took place between the Yankees and Tigers in 2017.   The brawl started with Miguel Cabrera throwing punches at Romine.

Romine will give the Tigers a much needed veteran to play alongside Grayson Greiner.  He will also give Tigers prospect, Jake Rogers a chance to play more in Toledo.

The Tigers fist game in Spring Training will be on February 22nd against the Phillies.
