Detroit Red Wings To Sign Former WMU, Finnish Defenseman Kaski

Detroit Red Wings are set to sign former Western Michigan and Finnish defenseman, Oliwer Kaski to a one year deal.

According to M-Live,  the Finnish defenseman, who has played in recent years in Finland, will sign with the Red Wings after the Worlds.

Kaski also played for Western Michigan in 2015-2016 and returned to Finland after one game the next season.

He is coming off a 19 goals, 51 points season in 59 game for Pelicans in Finland's Sm-liiga.  He is currently playing with Team Finland at the IIHF World Championship.

Kaski is an offensive minded defenseman who is expected to compete for a roster spot in training camp. A few years ago the Red Wings signed another player from the Pelicans, Libor Sulak.  He played most of the last season in Grand Rapids and may return to Europe.

The Red Wings have the number 6 pick in the first round of the NHL Draft which will be in Vancouver on June 21st and 22nd.
