In what Detroit Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland called "the worst-kept secret in recent Detroit Red Wings history," the team named Grand Rapids Griffins head coach Jeff Blashill as the team's new head coach on Tuesday morning.

He replaces Mike Babcock, who left last month to take the Toronto Maple Leafs head coaching position.

Blashill won the AHL's Calder Cup with Grand Rapids in 2013, he was in that position for three seasons.  He is the 27th head coach in Red Wings history.
