Detroit Red Wings Forward Justin Abdelkader has recently become a children's author as his new book was released in October. 

According to the story from Sports Illustrated, the book called, "Shoot For The Goal" was released in October.  It is a story of Justin's journey to being a player for the Detroit Red Wings

He is not the first hockey player or athlete to write a children's book.  He joins Zach Hyman of the Maple Leafs and Eric Fehr of the Wild as recently hockey players who have written books for kids.

Justin's was inspired to put his book together by his community program, Abby's All Stars and his discovery of a book written by former Lions Linebacker Stephen Tulloch.

Justin Abdelkader is currently one of the alternate captains with the Red Wings along with Dylan Larkin, Frans Nielsen and Niklas Kronwall.

He is currently in his 10th season in the NHL.  He also played college hockey at Michigan State.   "Shoot For The Goal" is available at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy and The Red Wings Team Store at Little Caesars Arena.
