Detroit Ranks In Top 15 Professional Sports Markets
Detroit has a loyal fan base for their professional sports teams. Being a Detroit Lions fan is kind of like being a Chicago Cubs fan. I am a huge Cubs fan and waited my entire life until 2016 for the Cubs to win the World Series. Detroit Lions fans, is 2023 going to be the year? I think their team looks good and they're very physical. Let's cheer for them this fall!
Detroit is home to the Detroit Tigers in MLB, Detroit Lions in the NFL, Detroit Pistons in the NBA and the Detroit Redwings in the NHL. Detroit has four choices when it comes to seeing pro sports. The number one market on the list that Sports Media Watch put together is New York. Keep in mind that these market sizes are based on:
Ranking the 115 U.S. based franchises in the “Big Four” professional sports leagues (NBA, NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball) by Nielsen TV market size.
Of course the bigger the city the more likelihood that they would have more than 4 pro teams in sports. In New York they have a total of nine professional teams that compete in all of the professional sports. With more options for teams to root for and more people to do so it makes sense that New York is the #1 market in America.
Detroit is ranked higher then I thought they would be, I was happy to see that Detroit ranked in the top 15 markets for professional sports.
