With all of the talk centering on the upcoming Michigan-Michigan State football game.  And to a lesser extent, the World Series with the long-suffering Chicago Cubs and the not nearly as long suffering Cleveland Indians.  It's easy to forget that the Detroit Pistons open their NBA regular season tonight in Toronto against the Raptors.

To refresh everybody's memory, head coach Stan Van Gundy's (pictured) crew made the playoffs last season with a 44-38 record, qualifying for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  It was their first trip to the postseason since 2009, and then they proceeded to get swept by the eventual champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round.

And with starting point guard Reggie Jackson out for at least the first month of the season, new acquisitions Ish Smith and Beno Udrih will be counted on to spell Jackson for the time being.
