The Detroit Lions have decided to keep a valuable reserve defensive back and special teams performer in the fold for 2017.

On Wednesday, the team gave backup safety Don Carey (pictured) a one-year contract extension through the 2017 season.  Carey would have become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Carey is in his seventh season in the NFL, the last six with the Detroit Lions.  He has three career interceptions, and he has recorded a forced fumble this season.
