Where have all the Lone Stars gone…long time passing?

Once one of the most frequented restaurants in Jackson, Lone Star Steakhouse has been sitting empty since November 2016 at 3510 O'Neill Drive.

When it closed down, angry fans and customers called the owner, Day Star Restaurant Group, wanting to know when Lone Star would re-open. Their calls went ignored. Before the Lone Star location in Dundee closed, the manager revealed that the Jackson location was shut down due to slow business. People were jamming into Outback Steakhouse and forgetting Lone Star.

I went to Lone Star a few times for dinner and had no complaints...I always had a good meal there.

Jackson’s Lone Star employees did find work at other Michigan Lone Stars…but some of them closed, too. There are still locations in Allen Park, Detroit Metro, Grand Rapids, Lake Orion, Lansing, Westland, Wixom, and Utica. Most of the locations west of Detroit have permanently closed, including Battle Creek, Dundee, Flint, Jackson, and Mount Pleasant. Around nine states experienced Lone Star closings in late 2016, leaving two states completely devoid of Lone Stars: California and Colorado.

According to Mlive, the very first American Lone Star location opened in 1989 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. At its peak, there were 267 Lone Star Steakhouses spread out across the United States. On September 7, 2017, Lone Star filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

The gallery below shows the old Jackson Lone Star Steakhouse, and a very few photos of the inside. The dining area is completely bare, except for the booths that were attached to the walls and floors. It looks so sad.
