This Thursday we received some sad news about an annual Lansing community event.

Announced via its Facebook page on Friday, May 26th, the Lansing Board of Water & Light announced that it will no longer be hosting its annual BWL Chili Cook-Off.

BWL Chili Cook-Off is Canceled

The 2019 chili cook-off was the last one we'll have, and we didn't even know it at the time.

It was canceled in 2020 because of COVID-19 to keep the community safe (rightly so), and again in 2021 because even though things were starting to open back up, there wasn't enough time to get the event planned. But now, "after much discussion and thought" BWL has officially decided to retire the Chili Cook-Off". Along with the announcement, the BWL shared some memorable photos of years past. Check out the post HERE.

Besides saying that they've given it much thought, BWL did not elaborate an exact reason as to why it was officially retiring the event.

The annual Chili Cook-Off event had been going on for 24 years, and this would've been year 25.

Lots of Lansing community members sounded off in the comment section of the post, most of which were very sad and upset to see it go. They even reminisced about years past and how much fun the annual event was. Some are hoping that another sponsor steps in to host the event. Events like this take a long time to plan and a lot of people to execute, so the likelihood of that happening this year is probably pretty slim, but there's always hope for next year.

Perhaps this isn't goodbye, but just see you later?
