There are two days before pitchers and catchers report to their Major League Spring Training camps in either Florida or Arizona. The Tigers, situated in Lakeland, FL, already know their Opening Day starter more than a month out.

Verlander had been the Tigers opening day starter for seven years in a row before losing his streak when the Tigers 2015 Opening Day starter was David Price. Newly acquired free agent Jordan Zimmermann figured to be another option, but Ausmus has apparently made up his mind already, allowing Verlander to get his eighth Opening Day start.

Tigers full squad will report in six days as of this writing. Their first Spring Training game takes place on February 29th, with Opening Day slated for April 5th on the road in Miami. The Tigers' home opener is April 8th when Detroit welcomes in the New York Yankees.

It's the first timed since 2013 the Tigers have opened their season on the road when they traveled to Minnesota that year.
