Anibal Sanchez Optioned To Toledo

Anibal Sanchez has struggled this year to put it kindly.

In 11 games, Sanchez has logged 21 innings with a 9.00 ERA and a WHIP (Walk and Hits per Innings Pitched) over two. His hits per nine innings number is over 14 and home runs per nine is near four.

On Monday, the Tigers announced that Sanchez has accepted an optional assignment to Toledo. Warwick Saupold has been recalled from Toledo.

As a starter in Toledo Saupold has an ERA of 2.90 and a WHIP of 1.36 over seven starts. His two games with Detroit so far this season were a bit rocky, surrendering three earned runs over four and a third innings.

Saupold is available to pitch tonight against Houston out of the bullpen.
