Congressman Dan Kildee is quoted as saying “Vacant and abandoned properties destabilize neighborhoods, drive down surrounding property values, create fire and safety hazards and drain local tax dollars. These abandoned properties have been eyesores in Saginaw County for far too long, attracting crime and negatively impacting the quality of life for residents.”

And with that, he outlined plans to demolish a handful of buildings in Saginaw, including the former Welcome Inn Motel & Suites at 3425 E. Holland Road. That was in October of 2022.

Three years earlier, the owner of the Welcome Inn was ordered to vacate the premises after it was determined that the building violated housing laws and was no longer safe for customers or habitation. So it was vacated and neglected.

Over one hundred points of neglect were cited including vermin, damage, vandalism, and black mold. Even so, the owner listed it for sale at $425,000. There weren't any takers, as it was estimated that it would cost more money to fix the place up than it would be to just demolish it and get rid of it.

It was planned for destruction by the end of 2019.
As of this writing (December 2022) it still stands.
