This fourteen-story mammoth was built in the early 1970s and opened in 1974 as the Michigan Inn. It was a 410-room, 14-story hotel was also a convention center with numerous meeting rooms, a bar, pool area, and restaurant.

As the years droned on, the owners sold out and soon it became a Sheraton Hotel...but soon they also sold out, and the hotel was known as the Plaza from then on.

When the Plaza couldn't fork over the money for a water bill that was over $100,000, the hotel was forced to evict one hundred people and shut down for good. However, in 2016, an announcement was made claiming there were plans to re-open as an extended-stay (apartment) facility with 220 units.

It never did.

Today, the Plaza still sits abandoned with scattered debris and clutter inside. Even with a smattering of disarray, junk and trashed rooms, there are some areas which look like they've been eluding the looters...some beds are even made in neatly-kept rooms. Old hotels like this usually get turned into apartment buildings, senior housing, or a demolition project.

No matter what they do with it, at least you can take a look at how it appeared years after closing down in the gallery below. As always, do your best to seek proper permission to enter any abandoned structure and avoid prosecution!
