The 2021 South Haven Blueberry Festival
People in Michigan are always talking about how great our cherries are. Several of us even try to make it out to Traverse City every year for the Cherry Festival.
Well, it's time for all of the Michigan cherries to step aside and give the blueberries time to shine. We're in the middle of blueberry season and there's no better way to celebrate it then going to a blueberry festival!
South Haven's Blueberry Festival
We're home to nearly 600 blueberry farms, so of course we've got to celebrate. Did you know that the first South Haven Blueberry Festival kicked off in 1963?
I've said it before, and I'm going to say it again, I live under a rock. I didn't know the Blueberry Festival was a thing. But you know what they say, "Better late than never."
This years festival is August 12-15 and features tons of activities like a parade and pie eating contest. I bet the most common saying after the pie eating contest is, "Violet, you're turning violet."
Some signature events are back this year as well like their 5k Run/Walk and Blueberry Festival Craft Fair. Click here for the festivals full schedule.
Blueberry U-pick Season
Blueberry season typically starts in July and goes through August. Lucky for us, all of the rain we've been getting has been great for farmers and their crops. So, that means fat juicy blueberries!
If you're looking to visit some blueberry u-pick farms that are within an hour of Lansing, we put a list together for you.
