2 Early Blockbusters and The Eagles Want Who From The Lions?
The 2017 NFL trade deadline is today at 4:00 P.M. and many are expecting this deadline period to be one of the most busy in league history.
Late last night one of the first big dominoes fell. The San Francisco 49ers who were in desperate need of a quarterback got one in the form of Jimmy Garoppolo fromthe New England Patriots.
The 49ers had started the season with Brian Hoyer who was benched in favor of rookie CJ Beathard earlier this month. With the trade made official, Hoyer has been released by San Francisco.
There was also a big deal completed earlier this morning with struggling running back Jay Ajayi finding a new place to call home.
As many fantasy owners can tell you Ajayi has been miserable this year in a Dolphins uniform. He has eclipsed 80 rushing yards only twice this season so far and has yet to score a touchdown. Head coach Adam Gase actually singled out Ajayi's performance after the Dolphins Thursday night loss to Baltimore.
But it would appear the Eagles are not done acquiring pieces to gear up for a long playoff run. Rumors are circulating that the Lions and Eagles could be in talks over the rights to Calvin Johnson.
That's right, Megatron may pull a Marshawn Lynch if the rumors are true.
It's not just the Eagles either, the Jaguars are also reportedly interested in the retired wide receiver.
The Eagles have solid receiver depth but with Jacksonville still hurting with the absence of Allen Robinson to injury, Johnson makes for an interesting fit on either of those teams.
Johnson's salary is around $16 million in base money against the cap should he unretire.
What more will come from NFL trade deadline day? Stay tuned.
