Defensive end Ezekiel "Ziggy' Ansah (pictured) has signed his franchise tender, and is now under contract for the 2018 NFL season with the Detroit Lions, according to media reports on Tuesday.

Ansah will play under the $17.1 million franchise tag that the Lions put on him earlier this off-season.  Ziggy and the Lions have until mid-July to agree to a longer term deal.

He was the team's first-round draft choice in 2013 out of Brigham Young University.  Ansah has 44 career sacks in a Lions uniform.  But he has been beset by injuries and inconsistent play during his time in Detroit.

The Lions finished 9-7 and out of the NFL Playoffs in 2017.
