1. Tigers Win Game 3 But Loses Series 2-1

In the 3rd game of the weekend series against the San Francisco Giants, the Tigers topped the Giants 6-1 with Kyle Lobstein getting his first win.  Lobstein pitched 5 2/3 giving up 1 run, with 4 hits and 3 strikeouts.  He did get some offensive support in this start with Miguel Cabrera went 2/4 with 3 RBI's, reaching the 100 RBI mark on the season.  He also hit his 22nd homerun of the year.  Reports also came out that Cabrera might need ankle surgery at the end of the season due to a bone spur.  The Tigers next game is this afternoon against the Royals.  Verlander will take the mound against Guthrie at 4:00 pm at Comerica Park.

2. Michigan State Falls Apart Against Oregon

On Saturday, Michigan State traveled to Orgeon to face the Ducks losing 46-27.  The game started off with the Ducks pulling ahead 18-0.  Then, Michigan State stormed back, leading 27-18 in the third quarter.  Then, Oregon scored 28 straight points to close out the game.  Connor Cook threw for 343 yards on 29 completions with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.  Jeremy Langford had 24 carries with 86 yards and 1 touchdown.  Michigan State will have a week off this week before facing Eastern Michigan next weekend.

3. Michigan Shutout Against Notre Dame

The Michigan Wolverines got shutout against Notre Dame for the first time since 1984 losing 31-0.  Michigan's offense never got started as they got 289 yards of total offense.  Devin Garner went 19/32 for 189 yards with 3 interceptions.  Michigan's leading rusher was De'Veon Smith who had 30 yards on 7 attempts.  Notre Dame's Everett Golson has 226 yards with 3 touchdowns. Michigan will play next week against the RedHawks of Miami of Ohio.

4. Wild Sunday In The NFL

From start to finish yesterday, the NFL had some crazy games yesterday.  It started early as New Orleans lost to Atlanta in overtime 37-34.  Then, we move to Chicago as the Bills and Bears were pushed to overtime with the bill prevailing with a field goal.  In Baltimore, the Ravens tried to come back and top the Bengals but fell short 23-16. The Miami Dolphins fell behind early down 20-3 at halftime but stormed back to win 33-20.  In Jacksonville, Philadelphia Eagles fell behind to Jacksonville 17-0 at halftime with the Eagles scoring 34 unanswered points.  In the nightcap, the Denver Bronco's took on the Indianapolis Colts.  The Bronco's had a 24-7 lead at halftime and the Colts stormed back and lost 31-24.  The Lions play tonight in the first Monday Night Football game of the night.

5. Serena Wins 3rd Straight US Open

In New York, The US Open Women's draw as come to an end, Serena Williams wins her 3rd straight US Open title.  She won 6-3, 6-3 to claim her 18th overall major wins.  This ties her for fourth overall as she chases Steffi Graff for top total for women.
