Your Five Things For July 31st: Tigers End 4 Game Losing Streak

1. Tigers Pounce On White Sox Early

The Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox with help from a 6 run first inning.  Scherzer was spectacular going 7 innings, 6 strikeouts, 1 walk and 1 run and 5 hits.  Scherzer improved to 13-3 on the season.  Nick Castellanos, who was scratched yesterday, went 2-4 with 4 RBI's and a huge 3 run home run as past of the 6 run first inning.  The Tigers finish up the three game series with first pitch at 1:08 pm as Smyly (6-9) takes on John Danks (9-6).

2. Masterson Heads To Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals made a trade with Cleveland for starting pitcher Justin Masterson for a handful of minor league players.  Masterson has had a bad year so far as the 29 year old has a 5.51 ERA over 98 innings.  Masterson had his lowest ERA back in 2011 which was at 3.21 over 33 starts for the Indians.  The trade deadline is today at 4 PM today.

3. Sale Of The Buffalo Bills Is Live

The sale of the Buffalo Bills finished its first round and the bidding reached over $1 Billion, reportedly by Donald Trump.  According to the New York Post, some of the bidders include Terrance Pegula, owner of the Buffalo Sabers and The Bon Jovi Group.  The Bon Jovi Group has said that they want to move the team to Toronto to be the first NFL team in Canada.  Some other unnamed bidders are interested in moving the team to Los Angeles.  Read more about this here.

4. Kluber Beats Hernandez In A Pitching Duel

Following the Masterson trade, Cleveland's new ace took the mound against another ace, Felix Hernandez.  While Felix Hernandez pitched well, 7 innings, 2 runs and 5 strikeouts and did not allow a base runner until the 5th innings.  But Corey Kluber pitched that much better, pitching 9 scoreless innings, giving up 3 hits with 8 strikeouts.  He improved his record to 11-6 and lowered his ERA to 2.61.

5. Timberwolves Working With The Cavs With Love Deal

According to a report on ESPN, the Cav's are not only the front runner to land Kevin Love, but are the only team.  Last week, it was reported that Andrew Wiggins was on the table as far as discussions.  But, if this trade is going to work with Andrew Wiggins, they will need to wait until August 23rd, 30 days after he signed his contract with Cleveland.  Read more about the Kevin Love trade situation here.
