1. Detroit Tigers Takes 6.5 Game Lead Into All-Star Break

The Detroit Tigers take 3 of 4 against the second place Kansas City Royals this past weekend.  Even though they lost their last game, they were able to have a strong finish before the All-Star break.  They scored 25 runs over this series and did not allow more than 5 runs over the 4 games.  Verlander had a rough outing yesterday giving up 4 runs over 6 1/3 innings.  The Tigers have 4 days off for the All-Star game and start a 3 game series at Comerica Park against Cleveland.

2. Pistons Making Some Free Agency News

The Detroit Pistons made some news this weekend in the free agency news this weekend.  They signed DJ Augustin and Caron Butler both to short term deals.  Augustin played with Toronto and Chicago last year and Butler played with Milwaukee and Oklahoma City.

3. Germany Wins The World Cup

In a thriller, Germany tops Argentina to win their first World Cup since 1990 when they beat Argentina.  In the 113th min, Mario Goetze blasted one past Sergio Romero to take the 1-0 lead and won by the same score.  Argentina last won the world cup in 1986 against Germany.  Germany did not lose a game all tournament but they draw against Ghana in group play.  The world cup will be played in Russia, the host of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

4. LeBron Is Going Back To Cleveland

LeBron James announced on Friday that he will go back to Cleveland.  He signed a two year $42.2 Million contract.  He signed two years because he knows after the TV contract gets signed, he will be able to get more money.  LeBron made the decision in an article on SI.com.

5. USA Wins Futures Game

All-Star weekend started with the futures game as the World played the USA.  USA won the game 3-2.  There was very little offense in the game but two home runs and a double highlighted the scoring.  The MLB players get into the action today with the home run derby.
