1. Tigers Take Care Of Business Against Royals

In an opening game of the 4 game series, the Detroit Tigers pounced on the Kansas City Royals winning 14-6.  Detroit scored 8 in the fifth inning and chased Jeremy Guthrie out of the game after 4 innings. Smyly pitched 6.2 innings gave up 4 runs with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.  Miguel Cabrera went 2/3 with 3 RBI's and Torii Hunter went 3/6 with a homerun and 3 RBI's. The Tigers will play tonight at 8:10 as Anibal Sanchez (5-3) will take on Danny Duffy (5-8).

2. Masahiro Tanaka Needs Rest, Possible Surgery

Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka will need to sit as he has a small tear in his elbow.  While the New York Yankees pitcher does not need Tommy John surgery now, he may need it if rehab does not help.  Tanaka has taken the league by storm as he has 12 wins with a 2.51 ERA.  He started the season 11-1 with a 1.91 ERA.

3. Clayton Kershaw's Scoreless Inning Streak Ends

Dodgers pitchers Clayton Kershaw 41-inning scoreless streak ends as the Dodgers beat the Padres 2-1.  Kershaw went the complete game giving up 3 hits and the lone run his ERA has dropped to 1.78 because of the scoreless streak.  He is 11-2 so far this season.

4. Sterling Trial On Hold For 2 Weeks

The Sterling v. Sterling Trial is on hold for 2 weeks so the NBA Board of Governors can approve the sale to former Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer.  The sale is set for $2 Billion and could be approved by the board as soon as July 15th.  But, it must close before September 15th or the team will be sold via auction.

5. Stage 7 Of Tour de France To Take Place Today

Germany's Andre Greipel won stage 6 after being in the back of the pack during the first 5 stages of the Tour.  His previous best was finishing 6th overall in stage 4.  The overall leader is still Italy's Vincenzo Nibali who leads by 2 seconds.  He has been the leader since stage 2 of the Tour de France.
