1. Reports: Nationals To Sign Max Scherzer

Late last night, it was reported that Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals have agreed to a long term deal.  According to the report, it will be a 7 year deal for between $180-$200 million.  Scherzer was considered one of the top billed players this offseason with many assuming he would sign with the Tigers or New York Yankees.  The Washington Nationals now have two former Detroit Tigers on the pitching staff as they have Max Scherzer and Doug Fister.

2. Spartans Get Crushed In Maryland

On Saturday, the Michigan State Spartans got blown out against the Maryland Terrapins in College Park, Maryland.  The Spartans were down by 14 points at halftime and only scored 26 points in the first half.  The Spartans could not fight back in the second half as Maryland won 75-59.  Branden Dawson led the way for the Spartans with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Matt Costello lead the way off the bench with 12 points.  For Maryland Melo Trimble and Jake Laymen lead the way scoring 24 and 23 points respectively.  Maryland shot over 50% from behind the arc making 11 three's during the game.  Michigan State could not convert free throws making only 4 of 13 shots.  The Spartans next game will be against Penn State at the Breslin Center on Wednesday.

3. Pistons Win Again vs 76ers

This past weekend, the Detroit Pistons took on the Philadelphia 76ers at the Palace of Auburn Hills.  The Pistons got off to a quick start scoring 31 points in the first quarter and never looked back winning 107-89.  Greg Monro had another double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds while Kyle Singler lead the game with 20 points on 6-8 shooting from behind the arc.  Michael Carter-Williams lead 76ers in scoring making 6-12 for 15 points.  The Pistons next game will be today as they travel to Atlanta to take on the hottest team in the NBA, the Atlanta Hawks. Tip is scheduled for 2:30 pm this afternoon.

4. Red Wings Come Back In Win Against Buffalo

The Detroit Red Wings welcomed the Buffalo Sabres to Joe Louis Arena as they battled on Sunday night.  The Red Wings were down early as they trailed 3-0 at the end of the period.  But, they fought back, tying the game at 3 by the end of the 2nd period.  In the 3rd period, the Red Wings continued their 2nd period flurry scoring 3 goals to win 6-4.  The Red Wings pulled goaltender Petr Mrazek after allowing the 3 first period goals and replaced him with call-up Tom McCollum.  The Red Wings last game before the All-Star game will be this Tuesday at home against the Minnesota Wild.

5. Patriots Will Play Seahawks For The Title

Yesterday, the NFC and AFC Championship games have come and gone. Lets examine what happened in the games.  The Packers squandered a big lead to the Seahawks as Seattle topped the Green Bay in overtime 28-22.  The Seahawks scored all 28 points in the 2nd half while the Packers only scored 6.  In the AFC, the New England Patriots rolled over the Indianapolis Colts winning 45-7.  Tom Brady outplayed Andrew Luck getting 226 yards 3 touchdowns and 1 interception.  Andrew Luck had 0 touchdowns for 2 interceptions.  So, the stage is set for the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks to square off in Arizona on February 1st.
