1. Brady Hoke Fired

Yesterday afternoon, interim athletic director, Jim Hackett, fired Brady Hoke.  Hoke spent the last four seasons as the head football coach of the University of Michigan.  Hoke had a 31-20 record while at Michigan winning the Sugar Bowl in his first year.  The buyout for Brady Hoke was $3 million per his contract.  Read more about the decision Michigan interim athletic director made as well as comments from the press conference here.

2. Michigan Basketball Tops Syracuse In Big Ten/ACC Challenge

Last night at the Crisler Center, Michigan hosted the Syracuse Orange as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.  Michigan limited the turnovers and was able to win a close game 68-65.  Michigan forced 19 turnovers during the game.  Michigan did not shoot great, only shooting 38.5% and 11-33 from behind the arc.  The Big Ten leads the ACC 6-2 with 8 wins needed to capture the title.  Michigan next game will be Saturday at home against New Jersey Institute of Technology.

3. Detroit Red Wings Fall To Panthers

Last night at Joe Louis Arena, the Detroit Red Wings took on the Florida Panthers last night falling 4-3.  This ended the 4 game win streak of the Red Wings.  Jimmy Howard saved 27 of 31 shots while his counterpart Roberto Luongo stopped 38 of 41 shots.  The three goals were scored by Thomas Tartar, Pavel Datsyuk and Gustav Nyquist.  Even though the Red Wings fell, they did get another powerplay goal.  The Red Wings next game will be on Thursday as they host the Dallas Stars.

4. Pistons Lose 9th Straight Game

Last night at the Palace of Auburn Hills, the Detroit Pistons took on the Los Angeles Lakers. The Pistons could not contain the Lakers allowing 35 points in the 3rd quarter alone.  That along with poor shooting led to the Pistons falling 106-96.  The Pistons shot 33-90 and 6-21 from behind the arc.  Josh Smith lead the team getting a double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The Pistons will look to end their losing ways against the Boston Celtics in Boston.

5. College Football Playoffs Get A Shakeup

Last night, the College Football Playoff poll was released by the committee last night.  There was some shuffle in the top 4 as TCU jumped Florida State as the number 3 team and Florida State fell to number 4.  Ohio State is one of the first two teams out sitting at number 5 with Baylor sitting at number 6.  The final poll of the year will come out after the games this weekend.  Check out the current poll here.
