1. Detroit Win Two At Home vs Pittsburgh

The Detroit Tigers used a dazzling performance from Max Scherzer to win his 14th game of the year.  Scherzer had 14 strikeouts through 8 scoreless innings while giving up 3 hits.  Phil Coke came into the 9th for relief and pitched 1/3 of an inning while giving up 2 runs.  Joba Chamberlain came in and finished pitching the 9th.  JD Martinez went 2-3 with 2 RBI's.  J.D. Martinez hit a homerun in the top of the 5th which opened up the scoring.  Pittsburgh had 3 errors during the game and the Tigers had 6 hits over the game.  The Tigers play tonight against the Seattle Mariners at Comerica Park.

2. Rob Manfred Elected Next Commissioner Of The MLB

Major League Baseball has a new commissioner.  Rob Manfred, former COO of the MLB, was unanimously selected as the commissioner, but not after multiple votes.  To be selected, you need to 75% of the vote (23 out of 30) from the owners.  Tom Werner was the other candidate in the running when voting began.  Werner is a part-time owner of the Boston Red Sox.

3. Rockies Lose Another Player

After losing Troy Tulowiizki, outfield Carlos Gonzalez is going to be out for the rest of the season and will be undergoing surgery to repair his patella tendon.  Gonzalez has had issues with his knee stemming last season with left knee tendinitis.  Gonzalez has had a difficult year after getting his appendix removed in the off season and a tumor removed in his finger in June.

4. Marshawn Lynch Cleared By Police

After possibly being involved in an August 10th incedent, Marhsawn Lynch has now been cleared by police.  The Seahawks were not that worried about this and called this, "bogus".  Marshawn Lynch has had issues this off season after a contract holdout.  Read more about this here.

5. Big 7th Inning Lifts Kansas City

Kansas City won again, beating the Oakland Athletics 7-3.  There was a hit parade during the game as the teams combined for 23 hits but Kansas City was able to convert.  Jeff Samardija got the loss after giving up 3 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings.  Kansas City starts they play against the Minnesota Twins in a weekend series.
