Good news for local football fans who can't get enough of those titanic battle between giants like Western Michigan and Michigan. The Broncos are adding the Wolverines to their football schedule in 2021.

This past season, Michigan edged out Western Michigan 49-3 in a squeaker played at the Big House, in early September.

Aside from looking for worthy opponents, Western Michigan is also looking at a whopping payday for making the two hour trek to Ann Arbor in 2021, as is fellow MAC school, Northern Illinois.

The Huskies have become a sort of cradle of coaches, having sent several on to bigger jobs in the past forty years. Former Western Football coach P. J. Fleck played at Northern Illinois and coached at Northern Illinois before breaking WMU's heart and heading to Minnesota. NIU is currently looking for a replacement for Rod Carey who just left for Philadelphia's Temple University. His predecessor, Dave Doerger went to North Carolina State. Jerry Kill went to Minnesota before health issues forced him to retire from coaching. ESPN's lovable Lee Corso coached the Huskies for a season in 1984.

So, bring on the Wolverines and bring on the paycheck. By the way, the same report says Michigan still has an open date in 2022, though it's hard to believe they'd want to risk playing the Broncos two years in a row. Look at what happened to Michigan State when they played Central Michigan two years in a row back in the early 1990's.
