Following their win last night against the Tamba Bay Rays, Detroit Tigers DH Victor Martinez was hospitalized with an irregular heart beat.

Today, the organization announced Martinez will end up on the disabled list for the next ten days. Detroit Free Press writer Anthony Fenech reported today Martinez began feeling off during yesterday's game.

Triple-A first baseman/catcher John Hicks from Tigers affiliate Toledo Mud Hens will serve in Martinez's place on the active roster. Fenech reported Martinez will likely need further testing as doctors are unsure of his health status.

"It is the first time Martinez has dealt with the issue," Frenech wrote of manager Brad Ausmus' knowledge of the situation. Ausmus also told Fenech he is unsure of a timetable for recovery.

At 38, Martinez is the oldest player on the Tigers roster. His hospitalization comes at a point in the season when his numbers have dropped and the Free Press reported "Ausmus has considered moving Martinez down in the Tigers' order".
