Congratulations to the Ithaca Yellowjackets for winning their fourth straight Division 6 state championship Thanksgiving weekend down at Ford Field over a tough Clinton squad.  They are now tied with Iowa City Regina HS for the longest active winning streak in the nation at 56 straight games.  The Michigan HS record for most wins consecutively is Hudson with 72 in a row, which was from 1968 through the first playoff year of 1975.  That means they would break the record with an undefeated fifth straight title in 2014, and then open the 2015 season with three straight wins.  Just an amazing program adjacent to 127.

And it's too bad that DeWitt didn't get one more chance to get the ball and try to tie (or beat) Zeeland West last weekend in the Division 3 Final.  But an attempted punt block resulted in a roughing the punter penalty which finished the Panthers chances (the correct call by the refs, BTW).  Just another great season for coach Rob Zimmerman and his players.  And QB Jacob Johnson is back for his senior season in 2014.

The girls basketball season is getting started this week, and that's where I think the power will be in the area.  By that I mean more quality teams, more depth than in the boys ranks this season, in my opinion.  Grand Ledge and Holt should be at the top of the Blue, although never, ever count out East Lansing.  The Red should have Haslett and DeWitt fighting it out.  In the Gold, I like Eaton Rapids, Waverly, and Jackson NW.  In the White, Portland, Corunna, and Williamston are the top contenders, IMO.  In the CMAC, look for P-W and Portland St. Pats to slug it out once again for that league.  Games to look for on Friday, Waverly at East Lansing, and DeWitt at Grand Ledge.  Good early tests for all four teams involved.

That's all for now....this is Brock Palmbos, signing off.
